FAQs

Questions

When is your open skating?

Currently, we only offer open skating in conjunction with our lessons. Each lesson is comprised of warm-up time, instruction, and open skating at the end of the session to practice the skills that were taught in the lesson. We do suggest checking out Rolladium or Rollhaven, the nearest rinks, for open skating, though.

Where do I get skates?

We have skates for the student to borrow during lessons. Some of our skates are available for purchase. We recommend purchasing used skates as the student's first pair for many reasons. If a new pair of skates is insisted upon, we strongly recommend you visit your local roller skating rink for that purchase. Skating students who have taken lessons are often too advanced for the quality of skates available in big box stores; the skates will literally restrict the student's progression. This is a VERY good conversation to have with your coach.

Can my child use inline skates?

We recommend that the student's instruction time be spent on roller skates, the ones with two wheels on the front of the skates and two wheels on the back of the skates (versus inline skates). The skater will have the best foundation this way, and will also transition to any other type of skate or skating (inline, hockey, speed, derby, recreational inlines, artistic inlines, ice, etc.) this way. Actually, many Olympic athletes also started this way!
